Hanzo Shimada
Former Heir to the Shimada Clan
Assassin for Hire
Ancient Cursed Punk#0014

🥡Childhood🐉
When Hanzo was younger, he and Genji would spend a lot of time together. They would go to Rikimarus for noodles, and sometimes the Sparrow would drag his older brother to the local arcade for games. When he wasn't running around with his brother, Hanzo spent his time quietly reading or sitting outside, simply observing the Sakura blossoms blowing in the wind. He was considered a strange child, very quiet and "boring," but that was a perfect trait in the elders' eyes for their future leader to have. As he grew, stoicism was emphasized in his development, and due to the isolation from other people his age, (other than Genji, obviously), he never quite developed proper emotional and social skills and is still affected by this in his adulthood.
🥀Teenage Years⚔️
As Hanzo ages, he is involved in more and more of the clans activities, with them starting him as soon as they possibly could. He spent hours and hours a day training in between his studies, to the point it became an obsessive behavior for him. Now that he is old enough to be deemed past childish emotions and treatment, he does not get praised nearly as often and has to work hard to even gain the attention of any of his family. Being the older sibling, he watches as Genji continues to be treated the same as he is thrusted forcefully into adulthood between 12 and 13. He becomes anxious, developing imposter syndrome and constantly fighting to prove he is worthy and hating himself when he fails. He finds he wants nothing more than to please and be considered a good future leader- that was his destiny, after all. Soon, he is molded into the "perfect kumicho." Cold and stoic, a skilled fighter, no need for interpersonal connections beyond business trading... Once it is his time, he is bound to be successful.
👑His Twenties☠️
Years of preparing go by when Shimada Sojiro, the brothers' father, passes away. Hanzo is swiftly pushed into the position and, ultimately, finds that it is not at all what he had been prepared for. It was stressful, to the point he constantly felt frustrated, and it wasn't long before the elders swept him away and took over. New jobs were given to him, getting to be more and more busy work until he is nothing but a representative. The title of oyabun was just that, a title; the council of elders became the true leaders, the minds pulling Hanzo's strings from behind the scenes. With most control taken away, he was to serve their whims, which, in time, came to be his biggest regret. At 28 years old, he was ordered to "straighten out" his wayward brother, Genji. His brother was his responsibility. If he refused, someone else would just take the job, (and probably kill Hanzo as well), so it was only right that the eldest be the one to strike down the sparrow. One night, as Genji came back from another long night of partying, Hanzo waited in the dojo with their swords. He tossed Genji's to him, saying that it was dishonorable to confront an unarmed man, and then commanded he leave or he would have to kill him. Genji, being stubborn, argued with Hanzo, saying that he would not leave him behind, and so they fought. Hanzo was the only one who actively struck, Genji used his sword defensively, and it ended in his downfall. Once Hanzo realized what had happened, he put his sword away and vowed to never use it to hurt another man, went to his room, and cried for the first time since he was a child. It only took a month before Hanzo escaped the clan after the incident.
🍶From Then 'Til Now🏹
Once he has escaped the clan, Hanzo realized for the first time of the manipulation he had been subjected to. He had spent his life in a jewel encrusted birdcage, and was too busy admiring his reflection to notice. He had wanted nothing more than to be perfect, than for them to think well of him, and it had caused him to hurt the only person who had loved him despite his imperfections. Memories he did not even realize existed came back to haunt him at night- he saw himself slicing into Genji, saw himself getting beaten for his mistakes during training, saw himself watch as his mother was whisked away to never be seen again. Dissociation and repression were his best friends for years, as were alcohol and any other vices he could reasonably use without hindering his combat abilities too much. He became a mercenary, an assassin for hire, nothing more than another cog in a system of blood and death. After all, he was never meant for more. Hanzo Shimada was a monster, raised with sharp fangs and sharper blades, and even without the clan, all he knew how to do was kill. Floating from one job to another, his only concrete routine was the return to Hanamura every year on the anniversary of Genji's death, and on the tenth anniversary, Genji himself appeared and showed himself to not be dead. Even still, Hanzo is not sure if this is him. As far as he knows, it could have been an imposter, or even the delusions of a man slowly descending into grief-stricken madness, but the cyborg had his eyes, his scarred, blemished, destroyed eyes, and the archer can't seem to care anymore. After a half assed internal debate, he decided to seek his brother out again and find what purpose he should serve now that Genji is apparently alive.

Personality
Hanzo is a very stubborn, angry, depressed man. Years of being trained as a weapon instead of a person, he can be a little rough around the edges. Due to a lack of social and emotional skills, trying to make friends or even just casually talking to people can make him awkward and have anxiety. He is a perfectionist and has imposter syndrome, so he strives to be the best. He is incredibly competitive due to his crippling fear of failure and need to impress. He has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor, and can make witty remarks as comebacks when needed. He is incredibly intelligent and skilled in strategic planning. He has a bachelors in marketing and business, which was pushed for by Sojiro.

Mental Health
> Due to the incident between himself and Genji, along with the cruel treatment from the elders of the clan, Hanzo has C-PTSD <
> Hanzo has depression and anxiety, both of which he does a fairly good job hiding his symptoms despite opting to leave them untreated <
> Based on how he was as a child, it is possible he has undiagnosed autism, but since he has gotten so good at masking, he probably couldn't get a diagnosis as an adult even if he wanted to <

Equipped with only his bow and arrows, Hanzo crouches silently near the top of one of the towering rocks in Gibraltar, just out of sight of the entrance to the watchpoint. His belongings were dropped off at his hotel, this one under another of his aliases as to not track him as easily. Had he been anyone else, he would have needed climbing gear to safely get this high up on such a steep surface, but years of training and the metal hooks on the tips of his feet have always sufficed. By now it is night time, seeing as he left Numbani a few hours ago just as the sun was sinking below the horizon, and the only lights to be seen are the stars above and the buildings both far behind and in front of him.
If all goes to plan, no one will know he is here.
He has done similar missions before. Blending into the shadows is easy for him, almost as natural as breathing, and stealth has aided him many times in the past. All he has to do is search the base. Surely, given enough time, he will eventually run into the cyborg. If that fails, the he will have to find where they store their data, get Genji's, and use that to track him down. Best case scenario, it tells him where his brother's room is and he can simply go there. Worst case scenario, he gets caught, an alarm sounds off, or such data doesn't exist.
Ah, yes. No pressure at all.
He stays crouched there a few more minutes, peeking out and watching the gate to get an idea of how heavy night time traffic for agents may be. So far, he has yet to see anyone, so he would like to assume that they are either all asleep or, at the very least, staying indoors. Of course, it would be foolish to base his actions on assumptions, so when he finally slides quietly down the rock, he makes sure to sneak inside to the best of his ability.
Hanzo follows the cliffside to where the wall and door meets air, the overall entrance to the base. He walks alongside it, following to where the watchpoint cuts into the cliff. His point of entry would be over the rocks- not many would be able to climb them, so he was expecting less, or even no, security. His main concern were any drones they may have flying around, but as long as he stays to the shadows and out of sight, he should be fine in that regard.
Lifting himself up, he makes quick work of his climb, taking advantage of every nook and cranny he could use as a handhold. By the time he reaches the top, his fingers burn and his palms are coated in dust, but he ignores it to hide out of view and peek just enough to monitor who or what is inside.
